Samuel Freeman (?) wrote his final Education column in today's NY
Times, in which he revealed, in case one hadn't figured it out, that
he has been an admirer of NCLB for shining a light on US educational
inequities. That's become a mantra of sorts used by supporters of
high stakes who prefer to camoflage their abject obeisance to
Authority (whoever's in power), and/or their professional cowardice
with a phony claim to care about poor kids. Personally, I say good
riddance to ole Sam, except I shudder to think who will replace
him. It's clear to me that the two previous Times Ed columnists,
Richard Rothstein and Michael Winesap, were purged because they
refused to become pro-corporate standardista mouthpieces.
