Wow. This is a pretty terrible list. The only good guy I know at all is Geoffrey Canada, who runs a wraparound program in Harlem called the Childrens Zone. They have a school, but I havent visited. Their social services are very, very impressive.

We need to find 100,000 more people to sign the Educator Roundtable
petitiion. Then the press would take a look. THERE you hear the real
voice of parents and teachers, not the flaks assembled by Sharpton and
Klein. I don't know why I was shocked by their list, but I was.
Neither the NY Times nor USA Today list the members of the
Sharpton/Klein group. I just posted them on my site:

The NY Times calls them "prominent educators and lawmakers," I can
think of far more suitable adjectives.

The field is getting crowded. From the NY Times:

".....On Wednesday, a group of a dozen prominent educators and
lawmakers,
led by Schools Chancellor Joel I. Klein of New York and the Rev. Al
Sharpton....squeeze teachers and administrators harder..."

"....On Tuesday, about 60 prominent educators and academics issued
another
manifesto.....a new emphasis on health clinics and other antipoverty
programs...."

I think we'll be saying something different. Anybody know how we could
get equal media attention?
