SUBJECT: Federal and State Accountability
Systems ? Sanctions and Intervention
We are attempting to document the effects of the
federal and state sanctions and interventions on
the programs, instruction and curriculum for
English learners. We have received numerous
phone calls and correspondence questioning some
of the mandates that come with this aspect of
the state and federal accountability
systems. There is no question that schools need
to succeed for all students including English
learners but what is often being required of
schools in Program Improvement, High Priority
School Grant Program, Immediate Intervention of
Underperforming Schools Program does not support
and often hinders what is needed to accelerate
language and academic growth for English learner.
We need EVERYONE to take just three minutes to
complete an online survey at the link below.
This survey will be analyzed and shared with
policy makers to try to modify the current
system to support the best practices for
language and academic growth for English learners.
There is one survey for district personnel, one
for school personnel and one in Spanish for
parents. Please complete the survey NOW and get
others at your school and district to do the
same. We need to hear from each of you.
