BILL OF RIGHTS REVISED

I revised and edited the Bill of Rights based on very useful feedback and suggestions from several sources. While the changes are few, they are clarifying and important. Deborah Meier among others have indicated strong support. She is also among those who provided feedback.

If you want a copy you can email me. ( Subject; Bill of Rights)

Please circulate and post the document preferably without attribution because it is important in my view that the focus be in on the Bill of rights and not the individuals or organizations that were responsible for writing the initial draft.

We need to keep in mind that this remains a work in progress, a long way from being translated into legislation. Whatever happens to the NCLB reauthorization, (and I don't expect very much) we need to press forward to get a version of these protections enacted. We need to hold our public officials accountable for their continuing support of laws , federal and state, that are undermining public education and inflicting grievous harm on a generation of children and on the teachers who teach them.

There is nothing in the proposed remedies that's radical' nor unprecedented --unless one views the protection of civil rights , due process, and equal protection of the law as radical.

Susan Ohanian just informed me that the revised version can be found on her web site. I've also suggested that CalCARE add it to their site.

NOTE; The up-to-date version is v1.3 and is so marked.
