The so-called Center for Union Facts is spending $1 million on a national
campaign blasting teacher unions. Their ads are scheduled to run in 20 school
districts across the country, including three in California (Sacramento City
Unified, Fremont Unified and Long Beach Unified).

The interests behind these attacks are school voucher supporters and anti-public
education groups.

The Center for Union Facts is part of lobbyist Rick Berman's family of front
groups opposed to working families. CUF has campaigned against higher minimum
wages and employer-provided health care. It has misrepresented work by the
American Medical Association, the Center for Food Safety, the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention, and Mothers Against Drunk Driving. In 2006, USA Today
reported that conservative groups pay Berman?s lobby shop upwards of $10 million
a year.

While I am no fan of the union leadership, their luring people into
voting booths where we get to choose which demagogue will be most fun to
watch, and best oppress us, rather than urging people to take control of
their workplaces and vote with their feet, where real power lies, I like
these people even less.
