Hi,
The union bashing is too much.  I work in a 30 year old alternative public school where the majority of the parents opt out of the standardized testing.  It is also a place where the teachers, like other places, are often complacent.  I have been the bargaining chair for the last seven years (uncompensated) and worked hard, for the most part selflessly, to upheld the rights of teachers.  Empowered teachers equal a better profession and a higher quality of education.  While CTA is not perfect,  I would not have been able to achieve the quality of changes without the support of my awesome local rep., Ed Hasson.
I receive no extra compensation for my efforts.  Some members of this web group live in a false world where somehow a large group of teachers will institute some mass action.  Give me a break.  In the trenches we need support and clout.  Expecting perfection is a waste of time.
I wonder if there are other people on this web page,  the posts come from so few, that feel that our teacher unions are us.  They are our responsibility and serve to protect our workplace.  I would be interested in any response.
