I do a spiral study of roots each year with my 7th graders using a reference
I bought on the Internet called "Vocabulary Vine." I don't use it exactly
like the directions say, but it is a good foundation and gave me neat ideas.
I also have the kids do a Root Scavenger Hunt each year where they search
the world in print outside of the school building for the roots we study.
This is an entirely out-of-class activity for homework. We play root BINGO
before I give a quiz. Another reason I like this program is that it comes
with a Root Glossary that I can photocopy for the kids to put in their
English Binders and that it also includes many popular prefixes and
suffixes.

I've decided I can't leave prefixes, suffixes, and roots out of my 7th gr.
reading class any longer. I bought a poster for the wall and have a couple
of articles as reference. Have any of you taught this? Thanks for your
suggestions.
