The rhyme scheme is consistent throughout the poem, so it's ABCB and then
stop. There is no need to go on to DEFE (etc.). The important part is the
pattern, not the individual sounds.

Subject: [middle-lit] HELP PLEASE...Rhyme scheme
Hi all,
I'm trying to teach rhyme scheme to my seventh graders. Another English
teacher and I differ on how to label a rhyme scheme. Now I'm totally
confused and I don't know which way is correct. Would you start again with
A on each stanza or do you continue through the alpahabet for the entire
poem? Can anyone PLEASE tell me what the correct rhyme scheme is for the
following poem? It's driving me crazy! Thanks in advance!

Hello, you've reached the Bloom house,
But we can't take your call,
We're either very busy,
Or we're not home at all.
We're probably out shopping,
Or maybe on a trip -----
A flying visit to Peru;
Perhaps we've taken ship
To some exotic port of call,
Like Fiji, London, Rome,
Or Hackensack, New Jersey.
That's why there's no one home.
We could be in the south of France,
Relaxing in the sun,
Or climbing up Mount Everest -----
I hear that's sort of fun.
Or maybe in Australia,
Helping shepherds tend their sheep.
But we'll be calling back,
So leave your number at the beep.
