Rhyme scheme

Answering Machine Message ==========================

(RHYME PATTERN FOR EACH STANZA IS ABCB....FOR THE ENTIRE POEM IF WRITTEN WITHOUT
STANZAS...below..)
================================================================================

Hello, you've reached the Bloom house, (house = A)

But we can?t take your call, (call = B?doesn?t rhyme with house)

We?re either very busy, (busy = C?no rhyme to either A or
B)
Or we?re not home at all. (all=B?rhymes with
call=B)
We?re probably out shopping, (shopping = D, doesn?t rhyme with above words?so
new letter)
Or maybe on a trip ----- (trip= E?no rhyme
above)
A flying visit to Peru; (Peru= F ?no rhyme
still)
Perhaps we?ve taken ship ( ship= ?..E=rhymes with
trip)
To some exotic port of call, ( call=B?see above)
Like Fiji, London, Rome, ( Rome=G?.new
word)
Or Hackensack, New Jersey. ( Jersey or New Jersey ?proper noun?new
word=H )
That?s why there?s no one home. ( home=G?.see Rome above)

We could be in the south of France, (France= I, new word)
Relaxing in the sun, ( sun= new word ?. J
)
Or climbing up Mount Everest ----- (Mount Everest??K ?new
word)
I hear that?s sort of fun. ( fun rhymes with
sun = J)
Or maybe in Australia, Australia?L
Helping shepherds tend their sheep. Sheep?..M
But we?ll be calling back, back?..N
So leave your number at the beep. Beep?..M (rhymes with sheep)

So the rhyme scheme FOR THE ENTIRE POEM is

ABCB DEFE BGHG IJKJ LMNM

OR ABCB

(IF TAKEN STANZA BY STANZA)

I am not certain now if rhyme patterns are just for sonnets, free verse, or
groups of stanzas. In other words, is there a rule of some kind that says rhyme
patterns start over with each new stanza....which would be the rule for the ABCB
pattern.

I haven't taught English/poetry in quite some time now, but I interested in
knowing the concensus on the entire poem or just by stanzas.
Nowadays, people just write anything and call it poetry. Get them to follow a
rhyming pattern for an extended piece of poetry that has meaning and it becomes
quite a challenge. Poetry is meant to be read/sung outloud....I just can't
imagine classical poets reading/singing some of this new 20th / 21st century
stuff.
