It's called Mirror. I had to write a 10 page paper on it when I was in college analyzing the possible meaning of almost every word in the text. Crazy! Anyhow, one of my classes chose this as their March Madness of Poetry winner. The girls really liked it.
Carla Beard <carla@webenglishteacher.com> wrote: v\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} o\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} w\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} .shape {behavior:url(#default#VML);} st1\:*{behavior:url(#default#ieooui) } Plath also wrote one comparing looking at your face in the mirror and seeing age approaching with a fish rising from the bottom of a lake. I don?t remember whether it?s called ?Mirror? or ?Fish,? but I think it?s a one-word noun title.
Can anyone help with this?
Carla

Subject: [middle-lit] poem with metaphors
Hi all--
Can anyone recommend a poem which would be good for teaching metaphor? I will also have my students memorize and recite it, so I'd like it to be of reasonable length. Sylvia Plath's "Metaphors" came to mind, but I'm having second thoughts on whether or not it might be considered inappropriate or if it would make the kids uncomfortable to recite it. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!
Cathy
