Re: Looping
After looping for over 1o years, this is my first year without looping due to a team change. I really miss it. I did have about 5 students cross teams with me. What a difference! They already know my standards, and I don't have to say you covered this last year with So and So.
We have six teams that loop: 3 in each grade for grades 7 and 8. We have 2 person, 3 person, and 4 person teams. We then teach the same curriculum every other year. If it didn't get done in grade 7, we can cover it in grade 8. There is more team activities and bonding between students, teachers, and teachers with kids. Discipline problems in grade 7 are usually straightened out before grade 8.

I can see the importance of continuity in literacy. What about math,
science and social studies? Do any of them loop, too??

Thanks,?

I have been looping for four years now.? My students have are teamed
with one?
set of teachers in 7th grade... and I follow them to the 8th grade as
they are?
with another team.? (I teach Literacy)?
?
Benefits?? I have stronger relationships with my students, with my
parents...?
and I get to know each student's strengths, weaknesses, habits, etc.?
Truly a?
blessing... cannot imagine not teaching this way again?

I teach 7th grade in a small, rural school. There is?
one teacher, per subject at each grade level in our?
6th-8th middle school. The administration has been?
throwing around the idea of looping at grades 7 and 8?
only, and most likely for just ELA and one other?
subject. Just wondering if anyone out there has any?
experience with looping? What do you see as positives?
and negatives? What grade levels do you loop with??
What subjects loop? What do the kids think of looping??
Do you switch classrooms every other year when you?
loop? Do you use the other teacher's materials when?
you switch to a new grade level and loop? Why did?
your district decide to loop? Any feedback (positive?
or negative) would be greatly appreciated. Thank?
you, Maribeth?
