Re: Genological Research

I once had simliar complaints from African American students who felt penalized because they could not trace their roots as far back nor use many of the genealogical sites used by whites. We had alternatives for a number of years and then finally dropped the project as our population changed. Have things changed? Doea anyone know if people like Alex Haley have helped establish better genalogical links for African Americans?

I once listened as the teacher across the hall from complained very bitterly about a similar project being done in her daughter’s class. I was astonished until I remembered that her daughter was adopted. This project brought up issues the daughter was not yet ready to deal with.

Just a caution – be prepared to provide an alternative.
