Also, if your students are in the Boston area, Waltham is home to the US Census archives. (I forget what the proper name of the institution is.) We've been there to look up family history.

Hi
I have traced my family history back to 1695 in Yorktown, V.A. Your best free research site is www.rootsweb.com . This site lists a host of resources across the U.S. as well as abroad. You may also try www.familysearch.org . I did have paid subscriptions to www.genealogy.com and www.ancestry.com which have all the census records. These are necessary if you intend to throughly research your family history.
Hope this helps
Dayle
