i don't know your principal, but i would try to take it at face value (and not as a criticism). What DOES it tell you? do you have mostly A's? B;'s? F's? as an educator concerned about student success, are your assessments too generous? are your assessment tools too difficult? are you trying to assess students or "catch" them unprepared?
