Re: Grade Distribution
Ellen,
All of the suggestions on this list are valid. I have seen most of them used in my 35+ years. I would suggest that someone seekout the principal and ask just what the purpose is for his/her request. Rumors and fear can do far more damage than any request. Perhaps you could work through your union representative if you feel there is not the kind of relationship which promotes an open discussion of the concerns.

Ellen,
We are given D/F distribution lists but have never been given instructions that we are to "analyze" it. Maybe your principal just wants everyone to be more reflective. OR -- this might sound crazy -- but this could also be a situation where the admin is having trouble with one or two teachers, but they make a blanket request of all teachers so as not to directly confront those individuals. Like I said, that might seem odd, but I have seen it happen a number of times in the two districts I've taught in. The admin won't call the person on the carpet about an issue, so they make everybody hear the message. Could that be it? Just a thought.

Our principal has given each teacher a copy of their grade distribution for the first marking period and asked the teachers to analyze them. No other directions were given.
I am at a loss! Is this usual practice? What would/should I learn? What is the principal trying to learn?
I'm relying on the collective experience of this group!
