Hey Debbie,
I just thought about some other things. You could try readwritethink.org- the
have a variety of activities on all subjects relating to reading and writing. Then
there is the idea of putting them into groups and telling them without talkling
they need to put together a tanagram. Have the solution be a simple quare, but
there is to be no talking and the winning team will not have to paticipate in the
next acitivity. The next activity should be one where you place 6 81/2 x 11 inch
pieces of paper on the floor and tell them they are stones and the rest of the
floor is lava. The goal is to save everyone by getting them to the other side of
the room safely, but they must have 2 feet on a square at all time or the rock
will disappear. The first thing they will need to do is make a plan for getting
across and then share it with the class- you can not help. Then you will ask them
to demonstrate and then they should try it. My classes do many of these prior to
any work in groups that isvolves writing or read/response. The activities are
trust and relationship building and come from a book called Silver Bullets. Try
Abebooks for it since it is out of print or email me and I can photo some and
send them email back. They are terrific and kids learn a lot about how to listen
and talk since the activity can only be accomplished if everyone understands and
focuses. We had timed challenges between classes and the winner did it in 45
seconds and we had 25 kids in the class. marymeehan@cableone.net
On Sat Jan 5 15:40 , Debbie Parker sent:
are these emails going through? I responded to 2 emails earlier but am not
seeing them flash up to the group. Somebody else said that yesterday too.
hmmmm......
