I have used a talking device. It is a bugs Bunny stuffed animal and the idea is
that once a person is finished talking someone raised their hands totalk and the
animal is tossed to them. You can only talk when holding the animal. This has
also helped with controlling that initial need to respond and forces kids to
think about what they want to say and not just shout it out.

can't do this worth a flip this year. Their other problem is sustained class
discussions--they all want to outshout each other rather than take turns
building ideas from one another. It's making me crazy, and I'd love to hear
