Pam,
I am noting some links for you that explain the CLOZE procedure and also
offer ways to create your own.
The first link shows you how to use this procedure with one passage along
with how to interpret the evaluation. Use the results to inform your teaching
rather than to stand as a TEST. That's how I would proceed. See if any of
these explanations work for you.

There are also several very good texts, and one I suggest is CLOZE Procedure
and the Teaching of Reading by James Rye, which you can get on Amazon.com
for under $5.00. Many other literacy texts have chapters and sections
dedicated to this procedure such as Richard Vacca's Reading in the Content Areas.
There are several editions from the 80's on, and they all include this
strategy. Some of your texts from college classes on literacy may have info on this
for you as well.
Good luck, and let me know how it goes.

"If education is to be done expertly, it must be done by the teachers
themselves who as experts use their own knowledge and understandings to define in
particular pedagogic situations the problems that are worth solving and
soluble....education cannot be exercised mechanistically or according to prescribed
programs and algorithms." (p. 33)
