Thank you for your reply. Not to sound too pessimistic, I do hope my wisdom and experience is being sought. Unsure on the wisdom part eventhough I have been teaching 7 years.....My school has some new lang arts teachers who have not done any student teaching but went the alternate route in becoming certified and we also have some teachers who have been there for "sometime" and are too comfortable in their ways to incorporate new ideas. I'm not sure of how to get them on the bandwagon. So looking for new, positive, willing and experienced blood to add our dept may be somewhat of a challenge. I hope there be plenty to choose from.

Also, from your additions to the conversation, I think your interview team will want to look at how the candidates view the push to formulaic writing vs. more authentic writing grounded in students' experiences. You mentioned grammar, too. How have/might the candidates teach grammar within the context of writing?

As someone suggested (Nancy V?), candidates who are famililar with the school building, school system, and its needs are a plus--but not necessarily if this means a change in the candidates' personal philosophy of teaching.
