Re: Need suggestions for novels

How about To Kill a Mockingbird? Or Karen Hesse's Witness?

Subject: [middle-lit] Need suggestions for novels

This year, I'll be teaching 8th grade reading and
language arts. The social studies teacher and I would
like to coordinate reading with the American history
units. We have books for every major unit except the
1920's and the 1930's. I need titles and/or a web
address where I might find titles by theme or
historical period.

The novels we have already are

The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle
My Brother Sam Is Dead
Slave Dancer
Across Five Aprils
The Devil's Arithmetic
Anne Frank (the play)
The Outsiders
The Giver
Any other suggestions? These are average-to-above
students in a private school. I really need books
that take place in the 1920's and 1930's. Thanks.
