Dayle,

In North Carolina there is a growing use of a program called Empowering Writers. This program was designed by two classroom teachers in Connecticut years ago. Many districts ikn Connecticut and Rhode Island have adapted it and raised their state writing scores. I know that these ladies have done a lot of training in North Carolina. It is a canned program, but I find it gives me the structure I need so that I can build with 6 Traits writing on top of it.

> Hi

Last year, our school had a separate writing teacher for all students. This
year, we will be incorporating writing in our own language arts classes.
Has anyone used Nancie Atwell's "Lessons That Change Writers? Does anyone
else have any books they recommend, or teaching methods for state
assessments? I am going to be teaching 6th graders in preparation for their
7th grade writing assessment. In N.C., they will be writing
problem/solution, or evaluative.

Thanks,
