Debbie--
This is a quick read -- only 140 pages -- and focuses only on reading
workshop and helping students find "the zone." She's refined some of her
procedures (e.g. classroom library checkout) and restructured the reader's notebook
responses to give students less "busywork" with books, as she calls it, and
more time "in the zone." The new system, she says, also allows her to better
handle the paperload. She talks about the value of booktalking and one-to-one
conferences and comments, too, on the shift from middle school to high
school practices in the English classroom.
