Re: novels in Spanish
A relatively unnoticed book by Gary Paulsen is one of my favorites.
It's called SISTERS/HERMANAS and tells two stories of two very different
girls. One is a blond cheerleader candidate California Valley-girl, and
the other is an illegal immigrant working the streets so she can send
money back home. Read it in English and/or turn in upside down and
backwards to read the same story in Spanish.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a YA novel in Spanish? Every year I have more and more students for whom Spanish is their native language. A lot of the research I have read is that reading in the mother tongue will help them increase their reading/comprehension and English skills. I can read Spanish myself and want to read a couple this summer so the books are available for my kids in the fall. Thanks for your suggestions.
