How funny for I have been thinking the same thing! I teach 8th grade too and I feel that breaking it into chunks really dumbs it down. I am tired of doing that. I have a collegue/great friend who is a consultant for College Board and she says that College Board encourages it with Pre-AP and AP classes. Check their website? I attended a Pre-AP workshop where it was brought up. There is a really good book called The AP Vertical Team Guides for English. It is the Pre-AP one.
