Re: Using audiobooks/texts

i think it's a wonderful 'scaffold' for some students. for students who stumble over text it allows them to listen fluently. it increases their listening comprehension, their vocabulary, their knowledge of text structure, and if they're following along looking at the words as they read, it may impact their ability to recognize words and spelling patterns.

Subject: [middle-lit] Using audiobooks/texts

How do you feel about using audio books or texts of a short story, poem or novel in the classroom to increase comprehension and vocabulary acquisition? I am doing research for a possible thesis topic. Does it even merit discussion? So many teachers that I've talked to believe that it makes reading too easy for students.
