Re: Workshop/presenter info needed
I have heard him speak at NMSA and and know many other people who have heard
him at a Nuts and Bolts conference--where everyone is terrific! He was
great! But I heard him speak about MS scheduling--he's kind of a guru on
that--and not motivation. I imagine anything he does would be good though.

Subject: [middle-lit] Workshop/presenter info needed
I just received a brochure from my principal about "A 2-day symposium
focusing on the most pressing issues facing middle schools today...meeting
AYP and Standards" with a Middle School Consulting, Inc., in Bluffton, IN
address. The presenter is Bill Denney - internationally recognized
educational consultant - author - humorist - keynote speaker - magician -
author of the new book titled, Engaging Tactile & Kinesthetic Learners.
I must say that when I read the description of the presenter I was a bit
turned off by his "credentials" in terms of truly being able to close the
achievement gap by getting students 'over the hump'.
Has anyone ever heard of the man or the consulting group? Would the
symposium be worthwhile in terms of truly helping teachers work with
'special education students, students who are on free/reduced lunch,
minority students, low achieving regular education students, students who
lack motivation and demonstrate apathy' as the brochure claims?
Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. I plan on sharing the information
with my principal. If it would be beneficial, I want to go. If it would be
a waste of time, I don't want to go.
Thanks in advance,
Sherri
