Minda -I teach level 3 and 5 ESL. I find that lists and workbooks are not
effective for improving spelling. What seems to help the most is posting a
word wall of frequently misspelled words that stays up most of the year and
is added to as time goes on--for example, my Spanish speakers have great
difficulty with 'w' words-- when, where, were, what, etc. If the word is on
the word wall, it is also on their word lists in their notebooks--if the
word is on the word wall, it better not be misspelled on their papers. I
mark a faint's' in the margins of papers that have these words misspelled
and have the students find their mistakes and correct them. After a while,
they get it.

hi,
does anyone have a recommendation for a spelling workbook for an ESL
learner? oral skills and oral and reading and comprehension are fine -- just
horrible spelling. any recommendations welcome.
thanks.
