Below are the core content standards in Ohio for English/Language Arts. The state achievement tests to the 8th grade level address these under "Reading" and "Writing". My school calls our 2 period block, Language Arts. We refer to our work in department as teaching Reading, Literature, Vocabulary Development,Writing, and Oral Communication Skills. Our mission is clear, our labelling less so I guess.
