You might try Sandy Hayes, chair of middle level at NCTE. If you put it
out on middle lit, I bet she will respond. As past Elem. Rep-at-Large, I
worked with Randy Bomer and others on working NCTE's position on
writing. If you go to the website, look up NCTE's Beliefs About Teaching
Writing. Also, Leila Christenbury co-authored a book which addresses
that issue and she held some proof development sessions around the
country representing NCTE. That may be another source to help you refine
your position and provide back-up to the work with your state standards.
