Hey Ann,

You may have started something here. I think there should be a sub-group among us called, "Homeschoolers at Heart". I, too, have just this year placed my three in schools. After 12 years of homeschooling, and still a strong proponent of this way of learning, we are trying something different and my heart is heavy. I wish that I could continue to stay home with my kids and enjoy the many perks of homeschooling--and simply enjoy THEM (my kids). My daughter has been a senior at a large public school for almost 2 weeks (and LOVES it---she thrives in chaos), and my boys in 4th and 7th grades for 3 days now. We're going to bed a bit earlier each night. We're up to 10:30pm right now. (I won't tell you where we started!) We are sleep deprived and culture shocked, but going forward. If it is ultimately too hard on the kids' souls I will just simply find a way to homeschool--somehow. But I'm so grateful for the strong foundation that homeschooling provided and for this wonderful local community we have homeschooled with.

In addition to Ann's suggestion, I offer this. For those of you finding yourselves having to look into an alternative education for your children that does not allow for homeschooling, you might like to look into the REACH program in Sebastopol. We are at their magnet school at Brookhaven (grades 4-8 only). If it is as good in practice as it appears on paper, I will be happy. My goal has been to find a school that values emotional intelligence over high test scores. It is project based learning, with an offering of many enrichment classes. You can find more information on the web.

It's funny that I find myself feeling uncomfortable having to admit to my homeschooling friends that I have sent my kids to school. Almost like I have betrayed them. But I know that the real discomfort is my own uncertainty about whether I am doing the best for my kids. I guess we will take that one day at a time.

My best wishes to all,

Judy

Hello Homeschool families,
Due to this being the Broad board and the fact I still feel connected to Homeschooling, I have decided to share this wonderful little school with everyone. Due to circumstances beyond our control, our daughter now attends alternative school. Maybe someone here could use this info for themselves or someone they care about that needs something "different".
The Village Charter School is a wonderful very small (60 students) multiculutural school that is gentle and kind. Has more enrichment than I could ever provide and parent involvement is really supported.
Here is there website:

also you can feel free to ask me questions too.
Sincerely,
Ann
